5 Easy to Remember Couples Poses for New Photographers

Hey there! Thanks for checking in to get some ideas with posing! When I first started out, I didn’t really know how to go about posing couples other than “kiss!!” lol. Those were the days.

I do think that posing is something that you should get really comfortable with first thing. You don’t want to get home and start editing and realize that all of your photos are of them smiling at you or kissing each other. Here are five simple, super easy to remember poses to help get cute and natural reactions from your clients.

1. Have one of your clients “kiss attack” the other on the opposite cheek and neck of where you are standing. The person in front tends to start laughing and you get a fun reaction from them.

2. Have one client whisper something in the other’s ear. This one gets very different reactions from every client, based on what they are like as a couple which is perfect! If a couple is really fun and light-hearted, you might get some cute happy giggly ones, and if a couple is more sweet and romantic, you might get some sensual smirks. The reactions are always fun for this one!

3. Tell one of them to stand in front of the other (usually whoever is shorter) and have them wrap up in each other’s arms, connecting hands and making a giant knot. After that you can have the person in back kiss them on their cheek or shoulder, or whisper to them too, but you will have a different look with one behind instead of side by side like most other poses.

4. Have them hold hands and walk while bumping hips! I used to tell my clients to skip towards me (which was really challenging for a lot of people!!) and then I thought it would be more organic to have them walk or slow motion jog towards me, but I found the best way to get those cute walking photos is to have them bump hips together while they walk, because it will keep your couple closer together while getting more movement and make them feel less awkward just walking and looking at each other!

5. “Pick them up at swing them around/back and forth!” This is another one that can get different personalities out for different couples which I LOVE! One might pick the other one up very gently and sweetly, and sway them lightly back and forth, and another couple might throw their partner over their shoulder and bump them around and sway them to get them laughing. It’s totally different for each couple and that’s what is so fun about this pose.
